Canoe Trails 2012 News

    Canoe Trails will be assisting with the 2013 BVD Klondike: Yukon Gold Rush,
    which is to be held on February 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2013. You can help out
    all three days or on Saturday, February 9th during the day. 

    Saturday, February 9th is special in that all events are held on this day.

    We need assistance from ALL Voyageurs! 

    We are hosting a seminar at the Barn on January 5th, 2013 for all
    of the participating Scoutmasters.
    Leaders from various troops will be
    present at 9am on the 5th, so we are seeking CT Voyagers to be present at 8am.

    When:
    BARN - January 5th - 8AM - Seminar on how to prepare for winter camping,
    clothing, and supplies

    February  8th - 10th - BVD Klondike: Yukon Gold Rush

    If you are able to help--even if for one day, please post a message under
    the CT Sub-Forum - Post 488.

    We are seeking assistance for both the January AND February events!

    With Courier du Bois a memory for some, its time to look ahead and plan
    for 2013.  

    The 2012 Canoe Trails reunion and business meeting is set for
    November 17th - 6PM at the Barn. Please set some time aside and stop on by.

    Thinking fall? We ARE!

    October 10th - Courier du Bois Training - 7:00pm @ the barn

             ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND this event! We need to provide
             Boy Scouts with a headcount of all members attending two weeks prior. 

             Menu and gear are necessary for the meeting.

    With the Canoe Trail Voyageurs back from Canada, it is time to clean everything
    up from the adventure. Even if you did not go on the trip, why not stop by 
    and lend a hand?

    Perhaps you should determine now that next year is THE year to go to Canada.

    If you have some free time this Sunday, why not come down to the
    Barn and help Canoe Trails pack-up for its up and coming trip? We could
    use your assistance--even if only for a few hours!

    According to BSA guidelines, Canoe Trails is setting up an evening
    for additional and NECESSARY training. 

    The training consists of the following classes:
    -Youth Protection
    -Safe Swim
    -Safety Afloat
    -Risk Zone Awareness

    These classes will be completed on June 28th, from 7pm - its done.

    Please keep an eye on the forum for updates.

    Also, the dates for Canada have been announced! August 3-11, a few
    folks will have the special opportunity to enjoy the Canadian wilderness.

    It is time to signup for the next Tionesta and Canada trips! Be sure to read
    the forum and see what is currently needed from each Candidate and
    Voyageur.

    Trip fees, youth wavier signed by both parents, passport, and medical forms
    are ALL due at the next meeting. Also, we will be packing up for the second
    Tionesta trip of the year that evening, so come prepared to help out.

    If you are going to Canada and have not shown up to any of the meetings, it
    is imperative you read the forum and notify a committee member of your
    intentions ASAP.

    Its almost time for Canada!!!

    Swim Test Date: Saturday, May 19th at 1:00pm
    Location: New Brighton YMCA
    Cost: $2.00 per person

    We will be heading to the YMCA from camp--take the swim test--and head
    back to camp for the evening.

    PLEASE READ:


    You need to at least attend the swimming test during the CT events next
    weekend. As it stands right now, this will be the ONLY swim test for the
    2012 season and it is REQUIRED.

    According to Boy Scout rules, Canoe Trails cannot let anyone participate in
    water activities without an updated swim test (to be taken on May 19th).

    Please make plans to be at one or both functions!

    Canoe Trails will be hosting the next meeting this Thursday, April 26th from
    6pm to 9pm at the Barn.

    Events to be covered:
    >Knots
    >Intro to Survival Kits
    >Clothing Review
    >Candidate Paperwork Turned In

    Also, cmk6826 and a fellow classmate from Slippery Rock University's
    Physical Therapy program will be showing all CT members how to properly
    stretch and exercise for the upcoming season. Shorts and tennis shoes will
    be needed in addition to bush clothes.

    Canoe Trails will be holding its second orientation tonight, Wednesday
    March 21 at the barn. We will be meeting from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

    If there are any questions, please review the Events Calendar to the left as
    well as the CT forum.

    Tomorrow (03/11) is the first Canoe Trails orientation folks! We will be
    meeting at the Vanport Fire Hall from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. We do need
    assistance in bringing some equipment down from the barn, so if any
    Voyageurs are able to help, please be at the barn at 12:00pm tomorrow.

    As a reminder, this Wednesday (February 15) Canoe Trails will be holding
    a Voyageur meeting at the barn. The event will begin at 7pm and we will
    be talking about the upcoming summer as well as evaluating the current
    equipment. We need your help, so please make plans to stop down and help
    prepare for the upcoming summer season!

    Are you looking for something to do during this coming weekend?

    Want to be outside?

    We are in need of a few hands to assist with the winter camporee during the
    evening of February 10 - the afternoon of February 12 (this coming weekend).
    There will be various stations where folks are able to learn axemanship, fire
    building, map and compass, and various other Voyageur skills. 

    If interested, please contact Mr. Martin, Mr. Young, Mr. Bowler, Mrs. Sutton,
    or Mrs. Menzietti (aka Ms. Beck).

    To all the Voyageur's out there, take note that a Voyageur meeting is
    scheduled for February 15th at 7pm. Please make plans to attend as there
    will be a lot to talk about before the upcoming summer season.
